Petrol, Diesel Fresh Prices Announced: Check Rates In Your City On December 3
As of today, December 3, 2025, fuel prices have been updated, reflecting changes influenced by both international and local economic factors. Motorists will see adjustments at the pump, with petrol and diesel prices experiencing an increase.
Price Adjustments
The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has confirmed that both grades of petrol will increase by 29 cents per liter. Diesel prices are set for a more significant hike, ranging between 65 cents and 82 cents per liter, depending on the grade.
Specifically, in South Africa, expect to pay R20.58 for a liter of 95 Unleaded petrol at the coast and R21.41 in the inland areas, where 93 Unleaded will cost R21.26. The wholesale price of 50ppm diesel will rise to R19.24 at the coast and R20.00 inland.
Internationally, gasoline rose to $1.83 USD/Gal, up 0.01% from the previous day.
Here's a breakdown of the adjustments in South Africa:
- Petrol 93: Increase of 29 cents per litre (R0.29)
- Petrol 95: Increase of 29 cents per litre (R0.29)
- Diesel 0.05%: Increase of 65 cents per litre (R0.65)
- Diesel 0.005%: Increase of 82 cents per litre (R0.82)
Illuminating paraffin will also see an increase of 74.48c/ℓ. The maximum liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) price will increase by 24c/kg nationally and by 9c/kg in the Western Cape.
Factors Influencing the Change
These adjustments stem from a combination of international product price increases and a slightly stronger Rand. According to the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, the average Brent Crude oil price decreased from $64.14 to $63.54 during the review period, with oversupply concerns as a main contributing factor. However, lower inventories ahead of the winter season in the northern hemisphere and refinery outages have impacted international product prices for petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin.
While the Rand appreciated against the US Dollar, on average, from R17.29 to R17.23 in the period under review, this wasn't enough to fully offset the rise in international product prices. This appreciation led to slightly lower contributions to the basic fuel prices.
Regional Variance
It's important to note that fuel prices can vary significantly between cities and regions due to factors like transportation costs, taxes, and local market conditions. For example, in South Africa, coastal and inland prices differ due to transportation costs.
Global Context
In broader terms, the global gasoline price has fallen 4.61% over the past month and is down 5.72% compared to the same time last year.
Impact and Considerations
These fuel price increases will likely impact consumers and businesses, potentially leading to higher transportation costs and inflationary pressure. South African fuel prices are adjusted monthly based on international and local factors.
