Patna: Once again, speculation is swirling around the potential entry of Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, into the political arena, fueled by recent statements from within the Janata Dal (United). Sanjay Jha, the JD(U)'s executive president, has publicly voiced the desire of many within the party and the broader National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for Nishant to take an active role in politics.
Speaking to reporters at Patna Airport, Jha stated that while the decision ultimately rests with Nishant himself, there is considerable eagerness among party members and supporters for him to join the JD(U). "We all want the same, but now it is up to him to decide when he will join the party," Jha commented, highlighting the anticipation surrounding Nishant's potential debut. Nishant Kumar was present during the interaction but remained silent on his political aspirations.
For some time, whispers about Nishant Kumar's political future have circulated within Bihar's political circles. Some speculated that he might even contest a seat in Nalanda during the recent Bihar Assembly elections. While the JD(U) secured a comfortable majority without him, the topic of his entry into politics has persisted. Party leaders have repeatedly affirmed that Nishant would be welcomed and could assume significant responsibilities. However, the decision has always been perceived as hinging on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's approval.
Jha's recent remarks are viewed by political observers as a strong indication that Nishant Kumar's involvement in active politics may be imminent. This renewed speculation comes in the wake of the NDA's recent electoral triumph in Bihar, which Nishant himself acknowledged as a testament to the people's faith in his father and the alliance. He expressed confidence in his father's ability to deliver on promises, including the creation of one crore jobs.
Nishant Kumar, an engineering graduate from the Birla Institute of Technology in Mesra, has largely maintained a low profile, but has made rare public appearances. Earlier this year, he made his first public appeal, urging voters to support his father and the JD(U). This event sparked considerable debate, with some opposition leaders interpreting it as a sign of Nitish Kumar's declining influence. However, the BJP, a key ally in the NDA, defended Nishant's actions, recognizing his acknowledgment of the Chief Minister's contributions to Bihar.
Previously, JD(U) MLA Gopal Mandal has also voiced his support for Nishant's entry into politics, emphasizing his belief that Nishant is crucial for the party's survival and future. Mandal has described Nishant as intelligent and capable, suggesting that he could revitalize the JD(U) and prevent a potential exodus of leaders to other parties.
Despite the persistent encouragement from various quarters, Nishant Kumar has remained non-committal regarding his political ambitions. Whether he will heed the calls of party members and allies remains to be seen.
