The AI image verification tool within Gemini allows users to upload an image to the chatbox and simply ask whether it is AI-generated. Gemini then analyzes the image for the presence of a SynthID watermark. The tool can also analyze the extent to which an image contains SynthID, which helps in identifying partially doctored images. If a watermark is detected, Gemini informs the user, providing a means to verify the image's origin.
In addition to Gemini integration, Google provides the SynthID Detector, a verification portal where users can upload images, audio, video, or text to check for SynthID watermarks. However, Google has plans to expand this functionality to detect C2PA content credentials, a standardized type of invisible AI watermark used across multiple platforms. This would enable Gemini to identify AI-generated content beyond Google's own creations.
