Goa Fire Tragedy: MLA Urges Safety Audit of All State Clubs Following Arpora Incident and Fatalities.

A tragic fire at a restaurant-cum-club in Arpora, Goa, has claimed the lives of 23 people, prompting a wave of grief and calls for stricter safety measures. The incident occurred around midnight, sending emergency teams rushing to the scene. Among the deceased are three women and 20 men, including both locals working at the establishment and tourists. Many of the victims reportedly died due to suffocation while attempting to escape the basement of the venue.

In the wake of the tragedy, BJP MLA Michael Lobo has strongly advocated for a comprehensive safety audit of all clubs in Goa. Lobo, who visited the site of the fire, described the incident as "disturbing" and emphasized the need to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future. He stressed the importance of the safety of tourists and workers in these establishments.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has expressed his deep sorrow and called it a "very painful day" for the state. Sawant, who also visited the site, has ordered an inquiry into the incident to determine the exact cause of the fire and whether fire safety norms and building rules were followed. He assured that those found responsible will face the most stringent action under the law and any negligence will be dealt with firmly. Sawant has also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

Initial reports suggest that the fire may have been triggered by a cylinder blast inside the club, named Birch by Romeo Lane. The club, located approximately 25km from Panaji, opened last year. According to Chief Minister Sawant, initial information indicates that the club may not have complied with fire safety norms.

The Director General of Police (DGP) stated that the police control room received information about the fire at 12:04 am, after which police, fire brigade, and ambulances were immediately dispatched to the location. Authorities worked through the night to bring the situation under control and provide medical assistance to the injured.

Prime Minister Modi has also expressed grief over the Arpora fire tragedy. Investigations into the incident are underway, with authorities focusing on providing support to the injured and the families of the victims. The inquiry ordered by the Chief Minister will examine the exact cause of the fire and whether all safety regulations were adhered to. The incident has raised serious concerns about fire safety standards in clubs and restaurants across Goa, and the government is expected to take swift action to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
