Delhi, December 8, 2025 – A Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus driver, identified as Vikas, was tragically beaten to death yesterday following a road rage incident sparked by a traffic jam caused by a wedding procession. The incident occurred late Saturday night in the national capital and has ignited public outrage over road safety and the handling of traffic during large social events.
According to police reports, the DTC bus, driven by Vikas, encountered a severe traffic congestion due to a wedding procession blocking a significant portion of the road. As the bus attempted to navigate through the jam, an argument broke out between Vikas and some guests from the wedding party. The altercation quickly escalated into a physical assault, with Vikas being brutally attacked by several individuals.
"The driver, Vikas, was allegedly assaulted when his bus got stuck in a traffic jam caused by the wedding procession," stated a police spokesperson. "The initial argument led to a violent confrontation, resulting in fatal injuries to the driver."
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the wedding guests became enraged when the bus driver honked, attempting to get them to clear a path for the bus. This led to a heated exchange of words, which rapidly turned physical as the wedding attendees allegedly dragged Vikas out of the bus and assaulted him.
Bystanders reportedly tried to intervene, but the attackers were too many, and the assault continued until Vikas was left severely injured. Police were called to the scene, and Vikas was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival.
The Delhi Police have registered a case of murder and have launched an investigation. Several individuals have been detained for questioning, and authorities have assured that those responsible for the crime will be brought to justice.
"We are taking this incident very seriously, and all efforts are being made to identify and arrest the culprits," said a senior police official. "We are also reviewing the traffic management arrangements during wedding season to prevent such incidents in the future."
The incident has drawn condemnation from DTC employees and transport unions, who are demanding increased security for drivers and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations during weddings and other large gatherings.
"This is a shocking and unacceptable incident. Our drivers work under difficult conditions, and their safety must be ensured," said a spokesperson for the DTC union. "We demand immediate action against the perpetrators and measures to prevent such tragedies in the future."
The death of the DTC driver has also sparked a broader debate about the culture of impunity and aggression on Delhi roads. Many are calling for increased public awareness campaigns to promote responsible behavior and respect for road users.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by public transport workers and the need for greater civility and law enforcement on the roads. Authorities are under pressure to take decisive action to address the underlying issues that contribute to such violent incidents and ensure the safety of all citizens.
