Modi and Netanyahu Discuss India-Israel Relations, Gaza Peace Plan Support Reaffirmed After Call.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke via telephone on Wednesday, discussing the strategic partnership between India and Israel and regional developments. During the call, Modi reaffirmed India's support for the early implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan, which aims to establish a truce in the region.

The two leaders conveyed their satisfaction with the continued strengthening of the India-Israel Strategic Partnership and reiterated their commitment to further enhancing ties for mutual benefit. Both Modi and Netanyahu also strongly condemned terrorism and reaffirmed their shared "zero-tolerance approach" towards it in all forms.

In October 2025, Modi welcomed the announcement of an agreement between Israel and Hamas on the first phase of the Gaza peace plan, calling it a reflection of Netanyahu's strong leadership and a hopeful opening. The 20-point plan, proposed by then US President Donald Trump, envisions the release of hostages and prisoners, followed by a troop withdrawal and Hamas laying down arms.

The relationship between India and Israel has grown considerably since full diplomatic relations were established in 1992. The two countries share strategic interests and face common challenges, leading to increased cooperation in various sectors. Israel has become a key partner for India in areas such as defense, agriculture, science and technology, and counter-terrorism. Bilateral trade between the two countries has also increased significantly, reaching $6.53 billion in FY 2023-24 (excluding defense).

India and Israel also maintain close defense cooperation, with Israel being a major arms supplier to India. The two countries also engage in intelligence sharing and joint military training. This cooperation was evident during the Kargil War in 1999, when Israel provided arms and ammunition to India.

Modi's call with Netanyahu also touched upon the ongoing situation in West Asia. Modi reiterated India's support for a "just and durable peace" in the region through dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful conflict resolution. The two leaders agreed to remain in contact as they monitor regional developments and advance bilateral cooperation.

Netanyahu's visit to India has been postponed, but both countries are exploring alternative dates for a visit early next year. The visit was initially planned for 2023 but was derailed after the October 7 Hamas attacks.
