Delhi Police Crack Down on Illegal Factory Manufacturing Fake Castrol Oil
In a significant operation, the Delhi Police's District Investigation Unit (DIU) has dismantled an illegal factory in Alipur involved in manufacturing and distributing counterfeit Castrol engine oil. The raid, conducted on Tuesday following a tip-off, exposed a large-scale operation that had been running for approximately six months, deceiving consumers and undermining the Castrol brand.
The Alipur factory was allegedly producing fake Castrol oil and supplying it across Delhi. Authorities have seized a significant quantity of finished and packaged counterfeit products, including the fake oil itself, empty bottles, and packaging materials used to mimic genuine Castrol products.
According to officials, three individuals have been identified as being involved in running the illegal operation. The police are currently investigating the scope of the operation, including the distribution network and the financial gains made through the sale of these fake products.
The manufacturing and sale of counterfeit engine oil poses significant risks to consumers. Substandard oil can cause vehicle malfunctions, leading to accidents and endangering lives. Moreover, it harms the reputation and market share of legitimate brands like Castrol, which invest heavily in research and quality control.
This is not the first instance of Delhi Police uncovering such illicit operations. In January 2024, the Crime Branch busted a similar factory in Samaypur Badli that was manufacturing and selling adulterated engine oil under various brand names, including Castrol. In October 2025, another unit was busted for producing counterfeit lubricant oil. These incidents highlight the ongoing challenge of combating the production and distribution of fake automotive products in the region.
The Delhi Police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations to unearth the entire network involved in this recent Alipur incident. The investigation will focus on identifying the source of raw materials, the distribution channels used to sell the fake products, and any other individuals involved in the operation.
The successful raid underscores the commitment of the Delhi Police to clamp down on illegal activities that pose a threat to public safety and economic stability. Authorities have reiterated their appeal to the public to remain vigilant and report any information about suspected counterfeit products to the police. Consumers are advised to purchase engine oil and other automotive products only from authorized dealers and to carefully examine the packaging for any signs of tampering or irregularities.
