A tragic accident on the Hayuliang–Chaglagam road along the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh has left at least 17 people feared dead. The incident, involving a truck carrying 21 labourers, occurred when the vehicle plunged into a deep gorge.
The accident reportedly took place on the night of December 8, 2025, but the news surfaced when an injured labourer alerted authorities. The remote location of the accident site, approximately 12 km short of Chaglagam, has posed significant challenges to rescue efforts due to difficult terrain and limited connectivity.
Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Millo Kojin confirmed that at least 17 labourers are feared dead. Initial reports indicated that the labourers were daily-wage earners from the Tinsukia district of Assam. They were en route to work in Hayuliang, located in the Anjaw district. Sources indicate that there were 22 workers in the vehicle.
Rescue operations were launched after authorities were notified. Spear Corps initiated search and rescue efforts. Teams are working to locate the missing and provide medical assistance to the injured. As of Thursday, December 11, 2025, the army has recovered the bodies of at least 18 workers.
Tinsukia District Commissioner Swapneel Paul stated that they received information about the accident around 11 a.m. on Thursday. The Hayuliang-Chaglagam Road, where the accident occurred, is in the Anjaw district in the eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh.
