Global technology leader Samsung has announced that it has filed over 14,000 patents from India, underscoring the country's growing significance as a hub for innovation. The company expressed its strong belief that India is poised to spearhead the next era of global innovation. This announcement coincides with Samsung's celebration of 30 years in India, during which it has become one of the largest multinational corporations in the country, boasting a revenue of Rs 1.11 lakh crore.
Samsung's journey in India began in 1995 with the introduction of televisions. Since then, the company has significantly expanded its operations, establishing a major mobile manufacturing facility in Noida, which is recognized as one of the largest in the world. In addition to its manufacturing prowess, Samsung has also invested heavily in research and development, with three R&D centers located in Delhi, Noida, and Bengaluru, as well as a design center in Delhi-NCR. These facilities play a crucial role in driving innovation for both local and global products.
JB Park, President and CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, stated that the company believes that India will lead the next era of meaningful global innovation. He noted that the future of smart homes, connected living, and intelligent devices is rapidly evolving in India, driven by AI that understands the country's cultural diversity. Park affirmed Samsung's commitment to working closely with the Indian government to contribute to a "Viksit Bharat," a digitally empowered nation where innovation fuels inclusive progress and co-prosperity.
Samsung's commitment to India extends beyond manufacturing and R&D. The company has also focused on people-centric innovation, India-led product development, and expanded engagement with local talent. Samsung Design Delhi, for example, develops India-focused features and products, including children's TV offerings and design elements for the Galaxy M and F series devices. Furthermore, Samsung is expanding its university collaborations and open innovation initiatives with Indian startups to ensure that ideas born in India can scale globally. Samsung also runs the Samsung Innovation Campus, a CSR initiative launched in 2022, that focuses on upskilling youth in future technologies.
The company's "Powering Innovation for India" initiative reinforces its role in the country's digital and manufacturing ecosystem. Samsung aims to build advanced technologies in India that will shape how the world lives, works, and connects in the future.
Samsung is the only brand in India offering an end-to-end artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem across smartphones, appliances, and displays connected through its SmartThings platform. This ecosystem encompasses Galaxy AI (smartphones, tablets, wearables), Bespoke AI (refrigerators, washing machines, and ACs), and Vision AI (televisions and smart monitors).
As Samsung celebrates 30 years in India, the company's focus remains on fostering innovation, developing local talent, and contributing to India's digital transformation. With its significant investments, strategic initiatives, and commitment to the Indian market, Samsung is well-positioned to drive the next era of global innovation from India.
