AI to Place India Among NTT Data’s Top Five Markets
India is poised to become one of NTT Data's top five markets, driven by strategic investments in artificial intelligence (AI), data centers, and digital infrastructure. The global IT services company views India as a critical hub for AI talent and a key driver of its global strategy.
NTT Data has been steadily increasing its investments in India, recognizing the country's engineering prowess, expanding digital infrastructure, and growing innovation. The company has already invested over $3 billion in India's digital infrastructure, including data centers and submarine cables. Looking ahead, NTT Data plans to invest an additional $500 million annually over the next three years, bringing its total investment to nearly $5 billion. These investments are aimed at expanding AI capabilities, data center capacity, and cloud services.
A significant portion of NTT Data's investment is directed towards building and expanding data centers across India. The company recently launched its largest data center campus in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, with a capacity of 290 MW, which will soon be increased by an additional 200 MW. NTT Data operates over 18 data centers in India, with a total capacity exceeding 265 MW. The company aims to add 210 MW more to its existing data center capacity in the next 2-3 years. To power these data centers, NTT Data is committed to using 100% renewable energy by 2030.
In Hyderabad, NTT Data is investing ₹10,500 crore ($1.2 billion) to establish an AI data center cluster in collaboration with Neysa Networks and the Telangana government. The 400 MW campus will house 25,000 GPUs and will be powered by a mix of grid and renewable energy sources. This project aims to position Telangana as India's "AI capital" by providing scalable and eco-conscious compute resources for AI applications.
NTT Data is also focused on developing AI-powered solutions for various industries, including telecom, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and the public sector. The company is expanding its collaborations with universities, start-ups, and research institutions to foster capabilities in areas such as agentic AI, edge intelligence, and industry-specific AI platforms. To strengthen its AI capabilities, NTT Data has appointed Dr. Bratin Saha as CEO of its new AI subsidiary, NTT DATA AIVista, Inc.
Recognizing the importance of talent development, NTT Data aims to reskill its employees in India to become AI-native developers. The company is also focused on recruiting specialized talent in AI, GenAI, and cloud services to support its growth in India. NTT Data currently employs over 40,000 individuals in India and plans to leverage the country's vast engineering talent pool to scale its GenAI capabilities globally.
NTT Data's commitment to India is further demonstrated by its investments in submarine cable systems to enhance global connectivity. The MIST (Malaysia, India, Singapore Transit) submarine cable system, with a capacity of over 200 terabits per second, will connect India with Singapore via Malaysia and Thailand.
With its strategic investments and focus on AI, data centers, and talent development, NTT Data is well-positioned to capitalize on India's rapidly growing digital economy and achieve its goal of making India a top-five market.
