Alluri Sitarama Raju District, Andhra Pradesh: A tragic bus accident on the Chinturu-Bhadrachalam Ghat road in Andhra Pradesh's Alluri Sitarama Raju district has resulted in the deaths of at least nine people. The incident occurred on Friday, December 12, 2025, when a bus overturned on the ghat road.
According to the ASR District Collector, Dinesh Kumar, several other passengers sustained injuries in the accident and were immediately transported to Bhadrachalam Hospital for medical treatment. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident and working to identify the victims.
Preliminary reports suggest the bus was traveling from Chittoor district with 37 people on board, including two drivers, who were on a pilgrimage, travelling to Annavaram after visiting Bhadrachalam. The accident occurred past midnight on the ghat road. Police suspect that the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve and hit the safety wall at the 9th milestone near Tulasipaka.
The location of the accident, situated in the hills, presented initial challenges in relaying information to officials due to limited mobile network coverage. However, authorities from Mothugunta promptly responded upon receiving the news and shifted the injured to Chintoor Government Hospital.
In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed his shock and directed district officials to provide all possible assistance to the victims and their families.
In a separate incident, 21 people from Assam’s Tinsukia district are feared dead after their minitruck plunged into a gorge in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced financial compensation of ₹2 lakh from the PM National Relief Fund for the relatives of the deceased in the road accident. He also announced a ₹50,000 grant for injured people.
