Vikram Beri, a 42-year-old Indian-origin entrepreneur from Menlo Park, California, has become the center of a bizarre series of events that led to his arrest. Beri, the founder of BetterLYF Wellness, an online mental health platform, was apprehended on December 8 after an incident at Garrod Farms Estate Winery & Stables in Saratoga.
According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, Beri allegedly attempted to start a fire at the winery. When confronted by winery staff, he reportedly threw a wine bottle at them before fleeing the scene in a Tesla.
The situation escalated as Beri, while escaping, allegedly intentionally crashed his Tesla into two parked cars, sending one of them over an embankment. His own Tesla also went off the embankment. Arriving deputies found Beri locked inside his car and refusing to surrender. Authorities reported that Beri remained non-compliant despite de-escalation attempts. Ultimately, law enforcement used pepper ball and spray to get him out of the vehicle.
Following his arrest, Beri was taken to a hospital for evaluation. He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office has stated that he will be booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
The incident, which has been described by the Sheriff's Office as a "WILD SCENE IN SARATOGA" on social media, remains under investigation. Authorities are continuing to piece together the events that led to Beri's arrest and determine the full extent of the alleged crimes. Some online have speculated about Beri's mental state, suggesting his behavior may indicate a mental health crisis.
