BJP Appoints Nitin Nabin as National Working President
In a significant organizational shift, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary board has appointed Nitin Nabin, a cabinet minister in the Bihar government, as the party's National Working President. The announcement, made on Sunday, marks a key change in the party's leadership at the national level. Nabin will be replacing J.P. Nadda, who has served as the National President since January 2020.
Nitin Nabin, son of veteran BJP leader Nabin Kishore Sinha, brings a wealth of political experience to the role. A four-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Bankipur, Patna, Nabin has been a prominent figure in Bihar's political landscape. He secured a notable victory in the 2020 Bihar Legislative Elections, winning by approximately 84,000 votes. In the same election, he defeated Luv Sinha, son of Shatrughan Sinha, and Pushpam Priya Chaudhry by significant margins.
Nabin's political journey began with his involvement in the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), where he served as the National General Secretary and State President for Bihar. He also held the position of BJP in-charge for Sikkim. His consistent electoral success and organizational roles within the party have paved the way for his elevation to this national position.
Currently, Nabin holds the portfolio of Minister of Road Construction in the Bihar government. He has also served as Minister of Urban Development & Housing and Minister of Law & Justice in the past. His focus has been on enhancing infrastructure, particularly road networks and urban connectivity, to improve accessibility across the state.
While Nabin's political career has been marked by success, he also faces some challenges. As of 2020, there were five criminal cases registered against him. Nabin declared assets worth ₹3.1 Crore and liabilities of ₹56.7 Lac in his 2025 election affidavit.
The decision to appoint Nitin Nabin as the National Working President was made by the BJP's parliamentary board and is effective immediately, according to BJP national general secretary Arun Singh. The party has not yet released an official statement regarding the reasons for the change in leadership or J.P. Nadda's next role. However, on December 13, 2025, Nadda laid the foundation stone for the BJP's new state office in Shimla, stating that the new office would infuse fresh energy into the organization. He also addressed a felicitation rally, emphasizing the importance of a "double-engine government" for Himachal Pradesh's growth and highlighting the central government's contributions to the state's development. Nadda also announced plans to expand healthcare initiatives.
As the new National Working President, Nitin Nabin is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the BJP's strategies and guiding the party's activities in the lead-up to future elections. His appointment reflects the BJP's commitment to promoting leaders with strong grassroots connections and experience in governance.
