TIL Chairman Satyan Gajwani: India's Unique Globalisation Vision and Impact Discussed at ET CEO Roundtable

New Delhi: India is confidently reshaping globalization by strategically leveraging its trade and resource management policies amidst a volatile global landscape. This perspective was highlighted by Times Internet (TIL) Chairman Satyan Gajwani at the Economic Times CEO Roundtable 2025. The event celebrated business leaders who embody India's growth and resilience in an uncertain global environment.

Gajwani emphasized that strategic autonomy is no longer just a buzzword but is evident in India's actions, whether in dealing with tariffs, Russian oil, or Chinese critical minerals. He noted that a rapidly globalizing India is refashioning globalization in its own image.

Several factors contribute to India's increasingly influential role. Firstly, the country's strong economic growth, currently expanding at approximately 8%, sets it apart amid global economic uncertainty. This growth is coupled with a rising confidence and global influence, fueled by the increasing prominence of Indian talent in sectors like finance and technology.

Furthermore, India's thriving startup ecosystem and advancements in areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI) are also key drivers. The "Make in India" initiative is also taking root, revitalizing manufacturing. This multifaceted approach, according to Gajwani, sees India having "a finger in every pie and in every part of the world".

Mukesh Ambani also spoke at a recent event, emphasizing India's need to become self-reliant in critical technologies and industries to navigate geopolitical challenges. He stressed the importance of self-sufficiency in areas like AI, new energy, space, biotechnology, and life sciences. Ambani urged graduates to embrace curiosity and courage, highlighting that India is at a defining moment.

Concerns about China's tightening grip on global supply chains and critical minerals have also emerged as a major strategic consideration. China's dominance in rare earths and as a key processor of essential inputs for batteries, renewable energy, and advanced electronics gives it considerable leverage. Its export controls on strategic minerals and supply-chain consolidation have spurred a global push for diversification.

Gajwani also acknowledged India's transformation over the past 25 years. He noted that the best and brightest in India no longer feel compelled to seek professional growth beyond its borders, recognizing the potential to make a real impact at home. He also highlighted the increasing savviness and participation of retail investors in public markets across all income levels.

The Economic Times CEO Roundtable brought together a panel of jury members to recognize leaders in India's business and economic landscape. The discussion centered on "crafting the India way in an uncertain world".
