Coaching in India demands immense dedication, often exceeding the recognition received, according to veteran javelin coach Naval Singh. Singh, who has been training national javelin throwers since 2012, emphasizes that passion is the driving force for those who choose this career path.

Singh's coaching journey is marked by his association with prominent athletes, including Sumit Antil, who won gold in the men's javelin (F64) at the Tokyo Paralympics with a world record throw. Singh had been training Sumit since 2018. He also coached Navdeep Singh, who won gold at the Paris Paralympics in 2024. In 2025, he coached Sachin Yadav, who won silver at the Asian Athletics Championships.

Speaking after Sachin Yadav's silver win at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, Singh said that it "wasn't a very good competition" and that Yadav "could have thrown better".

Singh's success extends beyond able-bodied athletes; he has also played a significant role in shaping the careers of para-athletes. He noted that Sumit Antil had a strong focus and discipline, which made coaching him easier. Singh just had to guide him.

Naval Singh also noted the lack of resources for athletes, especially those from poor backgrounds, who cannot afford quality javelins. He also noted that there is a lot of talent in India that is not being cultivated.

Despite the challenges, Singh remains committed to nurturing talent and elevating javelin throwing in India.
