Dhurandhar Actor Speaks Out: Rahman Dakait's Film Glorification Exaggerated, "He Didn't Do That Much."

A key actor from the blockbuster film "Dhurandhar" has finally addressed the ongoing discussions surrounding the portrayal of Rehman Dakait, the notorious gangster depicted in the movie. While the film has garnered significant praise and commercial success, some critics have raised concerns about potentially glorifying a criminal figure.

Akshaye Khanna, who played Rehman Dakait in "Dhurandhar," has been lauded for his performance, with many viewers claiming he overshadowed the film's protagonist, Ranveer Singh. Khanna's portrayal has sparked considerable debate about the film's narrative choices and whether it inadvertently romanticizes Dakait's actions.

In a recent interview, Khanna addressed these concerns, stating, "There's a difference between portraying a character and endorsing their actions. As an actor, my job is to embody the complexities of a character, even if that character is flawed or morally ambiguous. 'Utna Nahi Kiya Hai' (I haven't done that much) to glorify him." He further explained that the film aimed to explore the socio-political context that may have contributed to Dakait's rise, rather than celebrating his criminal activities.

Khanna emphasized the importance of distinguishing between entertainment and reality, adding that viewers should be able to critically analyze the film's narrative without necessarily condoning the character's choices. He acknowledged the responsibility that filmmakers have in shaping perceptions but maintained that "Dhurandhar" ultimately presents a balanced perspective on a controversial historical figure.

Mukesh Chhabra, the casting director for "Dhurandhar," has also spoken about Khanna's dedication to the role, noting that the actor immersed himself in the character's world to deliver an authentic performance. Chhabra revealed that Khanna remained composed and focused throughout the filming process, prioritizing his work above the surrounding buzz. According to Chhabra, when he spoke to Khanna about the film's success, Khanna simply responded, "Haan, mazaa aaya" ("Yes, I enjoyed it").

The film, directed by Aditya Dhar, has reportedly grossed over Rs 650 crore worldwide in just 13 days. Saumya Tandon, who played Dakait's wife in the film, praised director Aditya Dhar's vision and detailed the emotional depth of her key scenes in the film. Despite the financial success, the film has faced scrutiny regarding its potential to glorify a criminal figure.

The debate surrounding "Dhurandhar" highlights the ongoing challenge of portraying complex historical figures on screen while maintaining ethical considerations. As audiences continue to engage with the film, it remains to be seen how the narrative will be interpreted and what impact it will have on public perception of Rehman Dakait.
