Priyanka Chopra's Pirate Armour in 'The Bluff': Revealing the Unexpected Craftsmanship Behind the Gritty On-Screen Look

Priyanka Chopra is generating excitement with her upcoming pirate action film, The Bluff, revealing that her character's gritty armour was meticulously handmade. The film, set in the Cayman Islands in the 1700s, stars Chopra as Ercell "Bloody Mary" Bodden, a former pirate who must return to her violent past to protect her family. The Bluff is scheduled to stream on Amazon Prime Video on February 25, 2026.

Chopra shared the detail about her armour on Instagram, emphasizing its authenticity. The sleeveless, high-neck brown armour features leather straps across the shoulder and waist, lending a raw, functional aesthetic that aligns with the film's gritty tone. She credited Antoinette Messam, a celebrated designer known for her work on The Harder They Fall, for crafting the armour. Messam's involvement ensures a high level of detail and craftsmanship, enhancing the visual storytelling of The Bluff.

Speaking to Variety, Chopra explained that The Bluff aims for a realistic portrayal of pirates, distinguishing itself from fictionalized depictions like Pirates of the Caribbean. She noted that research into real-life pirates, such as the Irish pirate Grace O'Malley, influenced the film's direction. The film was shot in Australia but is set in the Cayman Islands, which Chopra described as a diverse hub for pirates from various backgrounds, including Scotland, Africa, and India. This diversity served as the basis for the film's powerful cast.

First-look images of Chopra as Bloody Mary have been released, showcasing her in battle-ready attire, wielding weapons and displaying a fierce, unwavering expression. The images hint at the film's intense action and themes of survival and power. Chopra's character is not only a fierce pirate but also a mother and protector, adding layers of complexity to her role.

Directed by Frank Ewen Flowers Jr. and co-starring Karl Urban, The Bluff is produced by the Russo Brothers' AGBO Studios in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios. The film also stars Temuera Morrison, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Safia Oakley-Green, Zach Morris, David Field, and Vedanten Naidoo.

Meanwhile, Chopra has also wrapped filming for Citadel season 2, where she reprises her role as spy Nadia Sinh alongside Richard Madden. The second season is directed by Joe Russo, with the plot remaining largely under wraps. While initial reports suggested a 2025 release, it has been delayed, with Amazon MGM reportedly aiming for a spring 2026 debut. The Citadel spyverse is also set to expand, though spin-off series are reportedly on hold until the release of the second season.
