British broadcaster Piers Morgan, 60, is recovering in a London hospital after a fall at a hotel restaurant resulted in a fractured femur and the need for hip replacement surgery. Morgan shared the news with his followers on Sunday, January 18, 2026, posting a photo of himself in a hospital bed, connected to medical equipment, while giving a thumbs-up.

According to Morgan, the incident occurred when he "tripped on [a] small step". The fall caused such a severe fracture that a full hip replacement was necessary. Medical reports confirmed that the injury was a fracture of the neck of the femur, which is considered a serious injury in adults over 60 and often requires surgery.

In true Piers Morgan fashion, he added a touch of humor to the announcement, writing, "New Year off to a cracking start! ... I blame Donald Trump". This remark quickly gained traction online, given Morgan's long and complex history with the former U.S. President.

Morgan's post on X (formerly Twitter) included details about his recovery. He stated that he would be using crutches for the next six weeks and would be unable to take any long-haul flights for at least 12 weeks. He also shared an X-ray image of the injury. When some hosts joked that Morgan might have been drunk at the time of his fall, he clarified on social media that "ZERO alcohol was involved in the incident".

The relationship between Morgan and Trump began when Morgan appeared on and won "The Celebrity Apprentice" in 2008, which was hosted by Trump. Trump praised Morgan's performance on the show, but their relationship has become more complicated since then.

Responses to Morgan's announcement have been varied. Many fans and fellow broadcasters have sent messages of support and wished him a speedy recovery. Others have responded to his blaming of Donald Trump with humor, with some even suggesting Trump was responsible for the step itself. One social media user commented, "I call it karma".

This isn't the first time Morgan has humorously blamed outside factors for medical issues. In 2019, he attributed a case of gastritis and duodenitis to "vegan sausage rolls, Brexit, and Donald Trump".

Morgan's colleagues at "Good Morning Britain" wished him well on air, and numerous celebrity friends and followers have also posted supportive messages on social media.
