Calvert-Lewin's Return Fizzles: Everton and Leeds Stalemate Leaves Both Sides Wanting More

Dominic Calvert-Lewin's return to Goodison Park as a Leeds United player ended in a 1-1 draw against his former club, Everton, on Monday night. The match, broadcast live on Sky Sports, saw Leeds dominate the first half, while Everton responded strongly after the break.

Leeds took the lead in the 28th minute when James Justin powerfully volleyed home Anton Stach's cross at the back post. It was Justin's first goal for Leeds United. Prior to the goal, Leeds had already created several chances, with Struijk and Gruev going close. Calvert-Lewin himself had an early opportunity against his old club, but Jordan Pickford was quick off his line to deny him.

Everton struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, but manager David Moyes made two changes at half-time, introducing Jarrad Branthwaite and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The changes had a positive impact, with Everton improving significantly after the break.

Everton's pressure eventually paid off in the 76th minute when Barry, who is in good form lately, skillfully found the net, securing his fourth goal in the last five Premier League games. Barry got in front of Sebastiaan Bornauw and lifted Idrissa Gueye's delivery into the roof of the net.

The game could have swung either way in the closing stages. Calvert-Lewin almost marked his return with a goal, but his close-range shot cannoned off the post. Gueye, fresh from winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, almost grabbed a late winner for Everton, but his powerful strike from the edge of the box hit the crossbar. Leeds also had a late corner and a shot from Buonanotte blocked, but neither side could find a winning goal.

The draw sees Everton move to tenth in the Premier League table, while Leeds United are now six points clear of the relegation zone.

Speaking after the match, Everton manager David Moyes acknowledged his team's poor first-half performance but praised their response in the second half. Leeds United manager Daniel Farke will likely feel his side should have taken all three points, given their dominance in the first half.

The match was played in front of a crowd of 51,979 at Goodison Park.
