Border 2 Box Office: Sunny Deol's Film Earns Rs 233 Cr, Showing Strong Performance Despite Mid-Week Decline

Border 2 Box Office Day 8: Sunny Deol Film Crosses Rs 233 Cr Despite Weekday Dip

Sunny Deol's Border 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1997 war epic, continues its successful run at the box office, crossing the ₹233 crore mark in India on its eighth day. Despite a noticeable dip in collections during the weekdays, the film has maintained a strong performance, driven by positive word-of-mouth and the enduring appeal of its patriotic theme.

The movie, directed by Anurag Singh and featuring an ensemble cast including Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, opened strongly on January 23, 2026. It capitalized on the Republic Day holiday, minting ₹59 crore on Monday. However, as the holiday fervor subsided, the film experienced a drop in collections, earning ₹20 crore on Tuesday, ₹13 crore on Wednesday, and ₹11.25 crore on Thursday.

On its eighth day, Border 2 earned over ₹9 crore, bringing its total domestic collection to ₹233.52 crore. While the film is performing well, it faces competition from the newly released Mardaani 3, which has impacted its earnings. Morning occupancy for Border 2 on day 8 remained similar to day 7.

Border 2 has already surpassed several milestones, becoming the highest-grossing film in the careers of Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The film's opening weekend collections were also higher than those of Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava and Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar.

Despite the weekday slowdown, Border 2 is expected to have a solid second weekend, with trends indicating a net collection of approximately ₹30-35 crore. If the film can achieve double-digit earnings on its second Friday, it would be considered an excellent achievement.

Border 2 is a multi-front war drama set against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan war. The film expands on its predecessor by showcasing the combined operations of the Indian Armed Forces, including the Army, Air Force, and Navy.

The film has received positive reviews from critics and audiences, with praise for its writing, direction, emotional depth, performances, and action sequences. Taran Adarsh, a prominent film critic, gave Border 2 a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars, describing it as an "outstanding" and "emotionally charged war epic".

With its strong box office performance and positive reception, Border 2 has solidified Sunny Deol's position as a leading force in patriotic cinema. The film's success is attributed to Deol's enduring appeal, particularly in mass centers and single screens. According to Koimoi Star Ranking, the film's performance will credit Sunny Deol with 100 more points, surpassing Rajkummar Rao and John Abraham in the rankings.

Border 2 was made on an estimated budget of ₹275 crore. The film's worldwide box office collection stands at ₹328.27 crore, including ₹244.97 crore net in India and ₹36.64 crore overseas.
