On a recent episode of "Shark Tank India 5", Viraj Bahl, the founder and Managing Director of Veeba Foods, extended financial assistance to a founder despite not investing in his company. This act of generosity highlights a different dimension of the "Shark Tank" ethos, showcasing support beyond traditional investment deals.
Dr. Parag Gad, the founder of xStep from Bengaluru, appeared on "Shark Tank India 5" seeking ₹1 crore for 1% equity. Dr. Gad presented a mobility device designed to aid individuals with paralysis and cerebral palsy, a project he had dedicated 17 years to developing. While all five Sharks were impressed by the device, Dr. Gad secured a deal with Namita Thapar, Kunal Bahl, and Vineeta Singh for ₹1 crore at 6% equity.
Despite not participating in the investment, Viraj Bahl was moved by Dr. Gad's invention. Touched by the device's potential impact, Bahl offered financial support to Dr. Gad through his foundation. This support aims to facilitate the production of these devices and distribute them to those less fortunate.
Dr. Gad expressed his gratitude for Bahl's support, stating that it extended beyond the deal itself. He emphasized that the validation from all five Sharks was significant, and the financial assistance from Viraj Bahl would be invaluable in furthering their mission.
Viraj Bahl's journey to becoming a Shark is marked by resilience and entrepreneurial spirit. Bahl's career began in marine engineering before transitioning to the food industry. He played a crucial role in growing his family's business, Fun Foods, before venturing out to create Veeba Foods in 2013. To fund Veeba Foods, Bahl even sold his house. Today, Veeba Foods is a prominent player in the Indian food industry. Bahl's success has earned him recognition, including being featured in The Economic Times 40 Under 40.
Bahl's decision to support Dr. Gad financially, even without an investment, reflects his belief in giving back and supporting impactful innovations. This act underscores the potential for "Shark Tank India" to be a platform for broader societal impact, where entrepreneurs receive not only funding but also mentorship and support from experienced business leaders.
Beyond his role as an investor, Bahl is known for advocating work-life balance. He joined "Shark Tank India" Season 4 in 2025. His personal journey and business acumen make him a valuable addition to the panel, offering guidance and encouragement to aspiring entrepreneurs.
