BTS ARMY Divided: Light Stick Ver 4 Release Ignites Debate and Controversy Before Impending World Tour

The BTS ARMY is currently experiencing a divide following the unveiling of the new official light stick, Version 4, ahead of the highly anticipated "ARIRANG" world tour. While many fans are excited about the updated design and features, a significant portion of the ARMY has voiced their frustration, primarily due to changes in wireless support for older light stick versions.

The new light stick, which boasts a sleek design incorporating the BTS and ARMY logos, is scheduled to go on sale on February 6, 2026. The "ARIRANG" world tour is set to begin in Goyang, South Korea on April 9, 2026, and will span across North America and Europe. The North American leg of the tour will commence on April 25, 2026, in Tampa, Florida, and conclude in September 2026 with multiple shows in Los Angeles.

The core of the controversy lies in HYBE's announcement regarding the wireless control of the light sticks during concerts. According to the official Weverse notice, Version 3, the Special Edition, and Version 4 light sticks will all be supported until May 28, 2026. However, starting June 12, 2026, only Version 4 will be compatible with the wireless concert control system. This means that fans who own older versions of the light stick will not be able to synchronize their devices with the concert's lighting system after this date.

This decision has sparked considerable backlash from ARMY members who recently purchased previous versions, particularly the "Map of the Soul: 7" edition. Many of these fans feel that their purchases have been rendered obsolete, especially since they may not have had the opportunity to use them at a full OT7 (all seven members) concert due to the group's hiatus and members' military enlistment.

The announcement has led to some fans feeling forced to purchase the new version to fully participate in the concert experience. Concerns have also been raised about the financial burden of buying a new light stick, especially after having already invested in concert tickets and other merchandise. Some fans have expressed concerns about potential sell-outs and the difficulty of securing the new light stick.

Despite the controversy, the Version 4 light stick has also garnered positive reactions. Many ARMY members appreciate the fresh design and updated technology. The light stick's features, including Bluetooth connectivity and multiple light modes, promise to enhance the concert experience. The ability to connect to the official BTS Light Stick app for synchronized lighting effects is also a highly anticipated feature.

The situation has ignited debates within the ARMY, with some fans defending HYBE's decision and others criticizing it as a money-grabbing tactic. The controversy highlights the strong connection fans have with their light sticks, which serve as symbols of unity and participation during concerts. As the "ARIRANG" world tour approaches, it remains to be seen how HYBE will address the concerns of the divided ARMY and ensure a positive experience for all fans, regardless of their light stick version.
