Seth Jarvis Called Up to Replace Brayden Point on Team Canada's Olympic Roster

In a significant roster adjustment, Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis has been named to Team Canada's Olympic men's hockey team, stepping in for Tampa Bay Lightning's Brayden Point, who is sidelined due to injury. The announcement was made by Hockey Canada on Thursday, February 5th, just ahead of the NHL's Olympic break.

Point's absence is attributed to a lower-body injury sustained on January 12th during a game against the Philadelphia Flyers. A collision with Flyers defenseman Cam York resulted in Point being helped off the ice. Although Point participated in the Lightning's optional morning skate on Thursday, he has missed the last ten games, ultimately impacting his availability for the Olympic Games. Prior to his injury, Point recorded 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in 37 games this season.

Seth Jarvis, who was considered a potential snub from the initial roster, now has the opportunity to represent his country at the highest level of international competition. The young forward has been making strides in his NHL career, amassing 43 points (25 goals, 18 assists) in 48 games this season with the Hurricanes. Jarvis also secured a gold medal with Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off last season. This marks the third time Jarvis will wear the Canadian jersey, having previously played for Canada Red U17 team at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in 2018-19.

"ROSTER UPDATE | Seth Jarvis has been added to 's Men's Olympic Team, replacing Brayden Point," Hockey Canada posted on social media.

Brayden Point, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning (2020, 2021), was among the ten Lightning players initially selected for the Olympics. His absence is a blow to Team Canada, who are looking to continue their dominance in international play.

Canada is in Group A for the Olympic tournament, alongside Czechia, Switzerland, and France. Their schedule begins on February 12th against Czechia. The addition of Jarvis brings a dynamic offensive element to the team as they aim for another gold medal.

Another adjustment to the Canadian roster saw Anthony Cirelli also replaced due to injury, with Sam Bennett of the Florida Panthers taking his spot on Tuesday.
