Newly released emails from the trove of Jeffrey Epstein's records reveal the extent of his relationship with Hollywood director Woody Allen, including efforts to arrange a visit to the White House. The emails, part of a large batch of documents released by the Justice Department, shed light on the connections between the convicted sex offender and prominent figures in various industries.
In a May 2015 text message exchange, Epstein inquired if Allen would be interested in a "day museum White House trip" the following week, during Barack Obama's presidency. Allen responded, "With my rap sheet I'll never get past security". It remains unclear whether the message referred to a formal visit or a tourist outing. Another individual was included in the text exchange, but their name has been redacted.
Allen's friendship with Epstein has been known for years, but these emails showcase the depth of their interactions. The documents also reveal that Allen met with Epstein frequently in 2014 and 2015, often dining at Epstein's home. A spokesperson for Allen stated that the filmmaker never had a business meeting with Epstein and was always accompanied by his wife, Soon-Yi Previn, during their interactions.
The release of these documents has reignited scrutiny of Epstein's relationships with powerful individuals. Other notable figures who appear in Epstein's files include Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Musk was invited to join a Christmas visit to St. Barts. These connections have raised ethical questions and drawn criticism, particularly in light of Epstein's criminal history.
In 2016, Allen penned a letter to Epstein for his 63rd birthday, reminiscing about Epstein's dinner parties at his Upper East Side townhouse, describing the gatherings as "always interesting". Allen noted the presence of "politicians, scientists, teachers, magicians, comedians, intellectuals, journalists," and "even royalty" at these events. He also described the dinners as being served by young women, which reminded him of "Castle Dracula".
The newly released photos also show Allen seated with Epstein and in conversation with Steve Bannon, former strategist for Donald Trump. The photos' context and date remain unclear.
Epstein's relationships extended beyond Hollywood and politics. Deepak Chopra, a new age wellness guru, met with Epstein a dozen times between 2016 and 2019 for meditation and funding meetings. Chopra also attended dinner parties at Epstein's New York residence with Woody Allen.
These revelations continue to fuel public interest and scrutiny regarding the extent of Epstein's network and the nature of his relationships with prominent figures across various sectors.
