In a shocking incident, Lucky Oberoi, a prominent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, was shot dead in Jalandhar, Punjab, on Friday morning. The incident occurred around 7:50 AM outside a gurdwara in the Model Town area.
Oberoi was leaving the Model Town gurdwara after offering prayers when the assailants attacked. According to reports, two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle opened fire on Oberoi's car. Initial reports suggest that the attackers fired multiple rounds, with at least five bullets striking the vehicle. Some reports indicate as many as eight to ten shots were fired from sophisticated weapons. The car's windows were shattered in the attack.
Oberoi sustained serious gunshot injuries and was immediately rushed to a private hospital. Despite receiving medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries.
The daylight killing has sent shockwaves through Jalandhar, particularly in the Model Town area. The incident has also sparked concern within political circles. Following the attack, a large police force was deployed to the scene. Authorities cordoned off the area and tightened security measures. Police teams are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area in an effort to identify and locate the assailants.
Senior police officials have stated that the case is being investigated from all angles. Possible motives, including personal enmity and political rivalry, are being considered. Police are working to identify the attackers and arrest them as quickly as possible.
