Shahid Kapoor Hints at Farzi 2 Filming: Fresh Look Signals Return of Sunny's Character

Shahid Kapoor has ignited excitement among fans by hinting at the commencement of filming for the highly anticipated second season of the hit web series Farzi. The actor's recent social media activity, featuring a new look and the caption "Sunny days back soon," is widely interpreted as a nod to his character Sunny's return.

Farzi, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video in February 2023, quickly became one of the most-watched Indian streaming series. The show, created and directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. (known as Raj & DK), is a black comedy crime thriller revolving around a disillusioned artist who ventures into the world of counterfeit money. The first season's gripping narrative and stellar performances, featuring Kapoor alongside Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon, and Raashii Khanna, left audiences eagerly awaiting a sequel.

According to reports, Shahid Kapoor is scheduled to begin shooting for Farzi 2 in March 2026. The actor has reportedly allocated six months for the shoot and is receiving a substantial paycheck for his role. Some reports suggest that Kapoor is drawing Rs. 40 crores for Farzi 2, potentially marking his biggest paycheck in his acting career, a testament to the appreciation garnered by the first season.

Kapoor has confirmed that the upcoming season will delve into more complex territory, placing greater emotional and psychological demands on his character. He recently met with directors Raj and DK to discuss the storyline of Farzi 2, noting that the first season's cliffhanger ending opens up numerous narrative possibilities.

Raashii Khanna, who also plays a lead role in the series, previously indicated that scheduling conflicts with the directors contributed to delays in commencing the shoot. Shahid Kapoor had earlier alluded to the sequel, acknowledging that the extensive post-production work, including dubbing in multiple languages for a global release in over 200 countries, would require considerable time. He estimated a waiting period of approximately two years between the start of filming and the eventual release of Farzi 2.

Farzi initially began as a film concept in 2014 before evolving into a television series in 2019. Principal photography for the first season took place across various locations, including Mumbai, Alibaug, Goa, Nepal, and Jordan. The series received critical acclaim and recognition, including multiple nominations at the 2023 Filmfare OTT Awards.

As anticipation builds for Farzi 2, fans eagerly await the return of Sunny and the continuation of the thrilling saga crafted by Raj & DK. The series' blend of crime, comedy, and social commentary, coupled with strong performances, has resonated with audiences, establishing Farzi as a significant player in the Indian streaming landscape.
