Tragic Swing Collapse at Surajkund Fair Claims Policeman's Life, Leaves Thirteen Others Injured in Haryana.

A tragic incident at the Surajkund International Crafts Mela in Faridabad, Haryana, on Saturday evening resulted in the death of a police inspector and injuries to 13 other people after a "tsunami" swing collapsed. The accident occurred between 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM, causing chaos and panic at the popular fair.

According to reports, the swing, carrying approximately 15 people, was operating at high speed when one of its supporting pillars suddenly gave way. This caused the entire structure to tilt and crash to the ground. A video circulating online captured the moment of the collapse, with screams audible as the ride failed.

Inspector Jagdish Prasad, who was present at the fair for security duty, was among the first to respond to the incident. While attempting to rescue those trapped in the debris, he sustained severe head injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

In addition to the tragic death of Inspector Prasad, 13 other people were injured in the swing collapse and were promptly taken to nearby hospitals. A stall operator was also injured when he was hit by a grill from the collapsing swing.

Following the incident, local authorities, including Faridabad Deputy Commissioner Ayush Sinha and MD Tourism Parth Gupta, arrived at the scene to oversee rescue operations and assess the situation. The area was immediately cordoned off to prevent further accidents.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini expressed his condolences and grief over the incident. In a post on X, he stated that the Haryana government is committed to providing all possible assistance to the injured and their families and has issued necessary directions for their immediate treatment.

Faridabad Deputy Commissioner Ayush Sinha confirmed that an FIR would be registered, and a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the accident. He also stated that appropriate action would be taken against the joyride operator.

Eyewitness accounts and the viral video of the swing collapse have prompted widespread concern and questions regarding the safety and maintenance of amusement rides at public events. The incident occurred just hours after a separate incident at the fair where a gate collapsed, injuring two people, including a child.
