Scindia Praises India-Emirates Posts' Enhanced Collaboration via EMS Standard Agreement for Seamless Express Mail Service.

Union Minister for Communications and Development, Jyotiraditya Scindia, has praised the adoption of the Express Mail Service (EMS) Standard Agreement by India Post and Emirates Post. This agreement is expected to streamline and make shipments between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India more cost-effective.

The collaboration is seen as a move to strengthen the postal ties between the two nations. The agreement builds upon a prior Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) established in 2022, which resulted in the launch of a commemorative stamp. This development follows high-level visits and discussions between officials from India and the UAE, indicating a growing partnership.

The EMS Standard Agreement establishes the terms and conditions that govern the exchange of EMS items between signatory parties. It is a multilateral agreement accepted by all EMS Cooperative members and those non-members who are signatories to it. It serves as the legal basis for the exchange of EMS items, removing the requirement for additional bilateral agreements. The agreement's purpose is to define the procedures that will entirely govern the exchange of EMS items between its signatory parties.

Emirates Post has re-established its postal operations to India, offering UAE residents and businesses a cost-effective way to ship goods to India. This resumption includes Economy Mail, Standard Mail, Registered Mail, Standard Packets, Standard Parcels, and Express Parcels. Emirates Post has partnered with India Post to create a widespread network throughout India, including major metropolitan areas such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, as well as towns in Kerala.

India has also launched a scheme to promote exports through its post offices, opening over 1,000 Post Office Export Centers across the country. The aim is to establish these export centers in every district of India, providing artisans, weavers, craftsmen, and MSMEs with access to international markets. The Department of Posts has agreements with 41 countries to track these exports. This initiative is intended to lower costs and reduce formalities compared to traditional shipping methods.
