BLACKPINK's Jisoo made a surprise appearance at Super Bowl LX, though not in the way many fans might have expected. Instead of a halftime show performance, Jisoo was featured in a commercial celebrating the 30th anniversary of Pokémon.
The commercial is part of the Pokémon Company's year-long "What's Your Favorite?" campaign. The advertisement features a variety of celebrities sharing their favorite Pokémon. Trevor Noah, who hosted the 2026 Grammy Awards, starts the commercial by asking, "What's my favorite?".
Jisoo chose Eevee as her favorite Pokémon, noting that she thinks the Pokémon resembles her a bit. She told viewers in Korean that she finds Eevee "so cute". Jisoo also mentioned that of Eevee's eight evolutionary forms, she likes Sylveon the most because it "looks soft and sweet, but it's actually very strong". She finds that contrast interesting and unexpected.
Jisoo told Rolling Stone that she remembers watching the animated series when she was young and feeling drawn into it. She said it "felt fun and a little strange in a good way, like a small world I could step into after a long day". She also said her love for Eevee expanded once her fans pointed out the similarities between them. "I liked Eevee right away because it's so cute, but I grew to like it even more after fans started saying it reminded them of me," she added. She feels a personal connection to Eevee, relating to the creature's ability to evolve into many different forms depending on its surrounding conditions. "I relate to that in the sense that growth doesn't feel like becoming someone else, but gradually uncovering different sides of who I already am as I move through different moments in my life," Jisoo explained.
Other celebrities in the commercial include Lady Gaga, who picked Jigglypuff and sang the Pokémon's signature song. Charles Leclerc, Young Miko, Lamine Yamal, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan also appeared in the advertisement, naming Arcanine, Gengar, Zygarde, and Luxray as their favorites, respectively.
Jisoo's connection with Pokémon goes beyond the commercial. The Pokémon Company is launching a merchandise line in collaboration with the singer. The line will include stuffed plushies, keychains, hats, and more.
The presence of K-pop idols in Super Bowl commercials marks a milestone for K-pop visibility on a global stage. Jisoo and fellow BLACKPINK member Rosé, who appeared in a Levi's commercial, are among the first Korean artists to be featured in ads during the Super Bowl broadcast. Rosé's appearance in the Levi's commercial highlighted denim and featured star cameos.
