Eknath Shinde Defends Salman Khan's RSS Event Visit, Citing Actor's Faith and Tolerance.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has defended Bollywood actor Salman Khan's presence at a recent event organized by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Mumbai. Shinde's remarks come amidst controversy and political debate surrounding Khan's participation in the RSS event titled '100 Years of Sangh Journey: New Horizons'.

Shinde asserted that there was "nothing inappropriate about an Indian citizen attending a public programme". He cautioned against politicizing the issue, urging leaders to avoid creating unnecessary controversy around a personal choice made by a public figure. Shinde's defense follows comments made by Minister Nitesh Rane, which triggered a political row in the state.

"Salman Khan attending the RSS event or not attending it—what kind of question is this?" Shinde stated, emphasizing Khan's Indian citizenship and respect for Indian culture. He highlighted that Khan "installs Lord Ganesha at his home, respects our culture, and his family does too". Shinde added that he saw nothing wrong with Khan attending the event, which was addressed by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Shinde also pointed out the RSS's commitment to the nation, stating, "The RSS works with a spirit of patriotism, and its volunteers are deeply committed to the nation". He reiterated that Khan, as a Mumbai resident, should not have his presence at a Mumbai event turned into a political issue.

Mohan Bhagwat spoke at the event and lauded Salman Khan's influence, noting how college students often emulate his fashion sense. Bhagwat emphasized the importance of good values in society becoming a trend.

Khan was not the only celebrity in attendance. Others included Ranbir Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, Shilpa Shetty, Karan Johar, Madhur Bhandarkar, Vicky Kaushal, Hema Malini, Poonam Dhillon, Mohit Suri and Om Raut.

Shinde's statement included that the RSS is a nationalist organization that has been working for the country for nearly 100 years and appealed for restraint, urging people not to create unnecessary controversy around a personal choice made by a public figure.

Salman Khan's upcoming film, "Battle of Galwan," is scheduled for release in April.
