Toyota Highlander Electric SUV 2027: India Launch Details - Range, Specifications, Price, and Date Revealed.

Toyota has officially revealed the 2027 Toyota Highlander, marking a significant shift for the popular three-row SUV as it transitions to a fully electric powertrain. This move positions the Highlander as Toyota's first three-row battery-electric vehicle (BEV) in the U.S. market.

Range and Performance

The 2027 Highlander EV offers two battery pack options. The XLE models with front-wheel drive are paired with a 77-kWh battery, offering an estimated range of 287 miles. All-wheel-drive configurations are available with either the 77-kWh battery or a larger 95.8-kWh pack. Upgrading to the larger battery provides a range of up to 320 miles for both the all-wheel-drive XLE and Limited trims.

Front-wheel-drive models produce 221 horsepower and 198 pound-feet of torque from a single electric motor. The addition of a second motor for all-wheel drive boosts the output to a combined 338 horsepower and 323 pound-feet of torque.

Charging is facilitated through a standard NACS port, with Toyota estimating a 10% to 80% charge time of approximately 30 minutes using a DC fast charger. An 11-kW onboard charger is included for AC charging, and a 120-/240-volt charging cable is provided. The Highlander EV also features vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, enabling it to power external devices or serve as a backup power source.

Design and Features

The 2027 Highlander EV showcases a modern design with clean lines, broad fenders, and distinctive full-width daytime running lights. Flush electronic door handles add to the sleek aesthetic. Compared to its gas-powered predecessor, the EV is slightly lower, wider, and longer, with an extended wheelbase.

Inside, the cabin features a 14.0-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The infotainment system offers 5G connectivity, a voice assistant, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Standard features include "Drive Recorder," an integrated dashcam utilizing the exterior cameras. The vehicle offers seating for up to seven with an available second-row bench seat on the XLE AWD trim.

Trim Levels and Availability

The 2027 Highlander EV will be available in two trims: XLE and Limited. The XLE trim offers a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, while the Limited trim comes standard with all-wheel drive and the larger battery. Sales are expected to begin in late 2026.

Pricing and Production

While official pricing has not yet been announced, the 2027 Highlander is expected to start in the mid-$50,000 range. Production will take place at Toyota's plant in Georgetown, Kentucky, with battery modules assembled at the new Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC) plant.

India Launch Details

As of now, Toyota has not confirmed plans to launch the 2027 Highlander EV in India. The company currently offers a range of electrified vehicles in India, including hybrid electric vehicles and battery electric vehicles. However, given the growing demand for electric SUVs in the Indian market, the Highlander EV could potentially be considered for future launch.
