Salman Khan Remembers Mukul Dev: A Touching Tribute to 'Jai Ho' Co-Star and Cherished Friend

The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of actor Mukul Dev, who passed away on May 23, 2025, at the age of 54. Known for his versatile performances in Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali and Telugu films and television, Dev's sudden demise has left a void in the hearts of his fans and colleagues. Mukul Dev's death was confirmed by Mugdha Godse, the partner of his brother Rahul Dev.

Mukul Dev's friend, Vindu Dara Singh, revealed that the actor had been unwell for eight to ten days and passed away in a Delhi hospital. Singh also shared that Dev was deeply affected by his mother's death and had been neglecting his health. He said, "He was not looking after his health, he was depressed after the demise of his mother. We were waiting for Mukul to join us for the photo shoot of 'Son of Sardaar 2' but he had stopped answering our calls." According to reports, Mukul had been undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit for over a week due to health complications.

Mukul Dev, born on September 17, 1970, in New Delhi, began his career with the TV show 'Mumkin' and the film 'Dastak' in 1996. He went on to star in numerous films, including 'Son of Sardaar', 'Yamla Pagla Deewana', and 'Jai Ho'. In Jai Ho, he played the role of Shrikant Patil alongside Salman Khan. He was also credited as a co-writer for Hansal Mehta's acclaimed film 'Omerta'.

News of Mukul Dev's passing has sent shockwaves through the industry, with many celebrities expressing their grief and offering condolences to his family.

Actor Manoj Bajpayee, who worked with Mukul in the 1996 film 'Dastak', shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram: "It's impossible to put into words what I'm feeling. Mukul was a brother in spirit, an artist whose warmth and passion were unmatched. Gone too soon, too young. Praying for strength and healing for his family and everyone grieving this loss. Miss you meri jaan...until we meet again. Om Shanti."

Arshad Warsi also expressed his sadness, saying he was "heartbroken" by the news. "I was really fond of him. He was a friend, colleague, a wonderful person with a beautiful soul… may his soul rest in peace," he wrote on Instagram.

Mukul Dev is survived by his daughter Sia Dev, his siblings Rashmi Kaushal and Rahul Dev, and his nephew Sidhant Dev. His last rites were held in Delhi on May 24th at the Lodhi Crematorium.
