In a thrilling and dramatic final, Nigeria's Super Falcons overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2 and claim their record-extending 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title. The match, held at a packed Olympic Stadium in Rabat, saw Nigeria complete what they called "Mission X".

Morocco started strong, buoyed by a passionate home crowd. Ghizlane Chebbak scored in the 12th minute, followed by Sanaâ Mssoudy in the 24th, giving the Atlas Lionesses a seemingly comfortable lead. However, the Super Falcons displayed their resilience and experience in the second half.

Esther Okoronkwo ignited Nigeria's comeback in the 64th minute, converting a penalty awarded after a VAR review for a handball. Okoronkwo then turned provider, setting up Flourish Ijamilusi to level the score in the 71st minute. With the game heading towards extra time, substitute Jennifer Echegini scored the winning goal in the 88th minute, crushing Morocco's hopes and securing Nigeria's victory.

The Super Falcons displayed tactical precision, with Coach Justine Madugu outmaneuvering World Cup-winning tactician Jorge Vidal. Nigeria's captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, led by example and was a contender for Player of the Tournament.

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria congratulated the Super Falcons on their victory, recognizing their determination and the Nigerian spirit.

This victory marks Nigeria's 10th WAFCON title, further solidifying their dominance in African women's football. They have reached at least the semi-final in every tournament they have played. For Morocco, this is the second straight WAFCON they have hosted and lost in the final. They lost the 2022 final to South Africa.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has increased the prize money for the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON); the winner's award has been doubled to USD 1,000,000. The entire prize pool increased by 45% to USD 3,475,000.
