Mingus Reedus, the 25-year-old son of "The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus and model Helena Christensen, has pleaded not guilty to assault and harassment charges following an alleged altercation with a 33-year-old woman in New York City. The incident, which led to his arrest on Saturday, August 23, 2025, has resulted in a total of five charges against him, including assault, harassment, and criminal obstruction of breathing.

According to police reports, officers responded to a call at an apartment in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood around 8:40 a.m. where they found a 33-year-old woman with minor injuries to her neck and leg. The woman was transported to Bellevue Hospital. Mingus Reedus, who is listed as a resident of the apartment, was taken into custody.

Initial reports indicated that Mingus was charged with third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing. However, he subsequently received three additional charges: assault - recklessly causing physical injury, aggravated harassment, and harassment. He pleaded not guilty to all five counts in Manhattan Criminal Court on Saturday. He is expected to appear in court again on August 26.

Details surrounding the alleged altercation remain somewhat unclear, but sources speaking to The New York Post claimed that Reedus allegedly punched the woman to wake her up, before choking her and slamming her to the ground. However, a woman identifying herself as Reedus' girlfriend suggested the arrest stemmed from a "misunderstanding". It remains unclear whether this woman is the same individual who accused Reedus of assault.

Mingus Reedus' attorney, Priya Chaudhry, has addressed the charges, stating that the fact her client is facing misdemeanor charges "speaks volumes". She also highlighted the judge's decision to release Mingus on his own recognizance, without bail or supervision, as further indication of the case's complexities. Chaudhry emphasized that her client is presumed innocent and expressed confidence that his innocence will become clear as the facts emerge.

Adding another layer to the situation, Chaudhry reportedly told the court that Mingus was the one who contacted law enforcement after the woman allegedly took sleeping pills in an attempt to end her life. She also stated that he had ended their five-month relationship prior to the incident.

This is not the first time Mingus Reedus has faced allegations of violence. In September 2021, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 24-year-old woman during the San Gennaro festival in New York City. He allegedly punched her in the face following a verbal confrontation. In March 2022, he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and received a conditional discharge that included counseling sessions and a year without further trouble. He claimed that the woman and her friends had "swarmed" him and his friends, causing him to fear for their safety.

Representatives for Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen have not yet responded to requests for comment.
