Following his recent arrest in Los Angeles, rapper Lil Nas X has described his experience, stating it was "terrifying". The artist, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was arrested on August 21 after police responded to reports of a naked man walking on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers encountered the 26-year-old Hill walking naked and, upon confronting him, he allegedly charged at them. He was then taken into custody and transported to a local hospital due to a suspected overdose. Subsequently, he was charged with four felonies: three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office stated that at least three officers were injured during the incident. One law enforcement source told NBC News that Hill punched an officer twice in the face during the encounter. Officers were reportedly unsure if Hill was under the influence of any substances or experiencing mental distress.
Lil Nas X appeared in court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was released after posting $75,000 bail. Video footage obtained by TMZ showed the rapper walking along Ventura Boulevard in the early morning hours wearing only underwear and cowboy boots, before removing the shoes and underwear.
After being released, Lil Nas X addressed the situation in a statement, saying, "That was f*g terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days, but your girl is going to be alright".
During the court hearing, Hill's lawyer, Christy O'Connor, described his life as "remarkable," stating that the alleged incident was an "absolute aberration" and that "nothing like this has ever happened to him".
The District Attorney has issued a statement saying that anyone who assaults law enforcement will face serious consequences, regardless of their identity or fame. Lil Nas X's next court date is set for September 15. If convicted on all charges, he could face up to five years in prison.
