Amidst swirling rumors of separation, veteran Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife, Sunita Ahuja, celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi together, bringing home Ganpati Bappa and putting up a united front. The couple's appearance together at the festival has seemingly quelled the recent buzz about their impending divorce.

For the past several months, speculation has been rife regarding the state of Govinda and Sunita's 38-year marriage. Reports surfaced alleging that Sunita Ahuja had filed for divorce in December 2024, citing "adultery, cruelty, and desertion" as grounds for separation under the Hindu Marriage Act. According to these reports, Sunita filed the divorce petition at the Bandra Family Court. It was also suggested that Govinda had been called to court on May 25, 2025, but had not attended the proceedings, leading to the issuance of a show-cause notice.

Adding fuel to the fire, Sunita Ahuja had made comments in interviews that hinted at marital discord. In one instance, she mentioned that she wouldn't want Govinda as her husband in her next life, expressing a desire for a partner who enjoys holidays and simple pleasures like eating street food together. Further fueling the rumors were reports that the couple had been living in separate residences and that Sunita had been spending her birthdays alone for the past 12 years.

However, amidst all the speculation, Govinda's manager, Shashi Sinha, dismissed the divorce rumors as "old news". He clarified that Sunita had indeed filed a divorce petition some time ago, but the matter was being resolved privately. Sinha also stated that the family was preparing to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi together, with Sunita actively involved in the arrangements. Govinda's lawyer, Lalit Bindal, echoed this sentiment, calling the reports "old news" and suggesting that everything was getting settled.

Adding to the clarification, Govinda and Sunita's daughter, Tina Ahuja, also refuted the divorce rumors. She stated that she doesn't pay attention to such reports and feels blessed to have a beautiful family. When asked about her parents' reaction, Tina said, "Kya bolun mein? (What do I say?) He is not even in the country".

On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, Govinda and Sunita Ahuja made a public appearance together, seemingly putting an end to the divorce speculation. The couple was seen outside their home, warmly welcoming Lord Ganesha and distributing sweets to the paparazzi. Sunita looked elegant in a maroon-colored saree, while Govinda complemented her in a matching kurta-pajama. Their son, Yashvardhan Ahuja, also joined in the festivities.

The couple posed for photographs with the Ganpati idol, greeting everyone with folded hands. When questioned by the paparazzi about the ongoing controversy, Sunita retorted, "Controversy sun ne aaye ho? (Have you come to hear controversy?)". This public display of unity and celebration during Ganesh Chaturthi suggests that Govinda and Sunita Ahuja are working through their issues and remain committed to their marriage.
