Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was hospitalized in Fortis Hospital, Mohali, on Friday, September 5, 2025, after complaining of exhaustion and a low heart rate. According to the hospital, his vitals were assessed upon arrival and have since been stabilized. He is currently under observation, and his pulse rate has improved. The medical team is closely monitoring his condition.
Prior to his hospitalization, Mann, 51, had reportedly been suffering from a viral fever and digestive-related health problems. Sources also indicated he may have a stomach infection and high-grade fever. His condition did not improve with initial treatment at home, leading to his admission to the hospital. A year prior, Mann was also admitted to Fortis Mohali with a bacterial infection. In September of last year, he was hospitalized after fainting, with doctors attributing it to increased pressure in his pulmonary artery, straining his heart and causing irregular blood pressure.
Mann's illness has affected his ability to carry out his official duties. A Punjab cabinet meeting, scheduled to address flood relief efforts, was postponed. The state has been severely affected by recent floods, with the death toll reaching 43. Mann had been touring the flood-affected areas and meeting with residents earlier in the week. The Punjab government has directed the deployment of gazetted officers to every marooned village to monitor rescue and relief operations effectively.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal visited Mann at his official residence on Thursday to check on his health. Kejriwal had arrived in Punjab on Wednesday evening to assess the flood situation and was originally scheduled to visit the affected areas alongside the Chief Minister. However, due to Mann's illness, Kejriwal proceeded to visit the flood-hit areas in Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthala district on Thursday. Kejriwal attributed Mann's illness to overwork in the flood-hit areas.
