Colombo is rapidly transforming into a luxury hotspot in South Asia with the arrival of City of Dreams, a groundbreaking integrated resort that officially opened on August 2, 2025. This US$1.2 billion development, a partnership between John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) and Melco Resorts & Entertainment, is the largest private sector investment in Sri Lanka to date and aims to redefine Colombo's position on the global tourism map.

City of Dreams is not just a resort; it's envisioned as a lifestyle hub that blends modernity, elegance, and Sri Lankan culture. Strategically located in the heart of Colombo, the resort brings together world-class hospitality, upscale retail, immersive entertainment, and cutting-edge MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) infrastructure in one dynamic destination.

The resort boasts 800 rooms and suites, comprising a 687-room luxury hotel branded "Cinnamon Life," launched in October 2024, and a 113-room ultra-luxury hotel under Melco's flagship "Nüwa" brand. Nüwa caters to discerning travelers with world-class design, personalized service, and exclusive amenities.

At the heart of City of Dreams is a 180,000 square foot casino, fitted out by Melco Resorts and Entertainment, which has invested approximately US$125 million into the facility. Melco has been granted a 20-year license by the Sri Lankan government to operate the casino.

City of Dreams is designed to attract a broad audience, offering luxury hotels, fine dining, designer shopping, live entertainment, and convention facilities. The resort features a premium shopping mall, a curated collection of signature dining experiences involving internationally acclaimed chefs, and immersive entertainment spaces for international performances and cultural showcases.

Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams is also set to transform the MICE landscape in South Asia. With over 160,000 sq. ft. of adaptable event space, Cinnamon Life offers a variety of venues suitable for intimate board meetings and large international summits. The resort features five distinct ballrooms and three unique outdoor spaces, each offering breathtaking views of the ocean, Lake Beira, and Colombo's skyline.

The opening of City of Dreams is expected to serve as a catalyst for stimulating tourism demand and promoting economic growth in Sri Lanka. The project is expected to generate over 20,000 direct and indirect jobs, attract high-value travelers, and position Sri Lanka as a competitive player in the global luxury travel and MICE industries.

With its blend of luxury, entertainment, and cultural experiences, City of Dreams aims to redefine Colombo's image and establish it as a premier destination for both tourists and locals. The resort's scale and ambition place Colombo in the same league as established urban resort cities like Macau, Manila, and Limassol.
