The Gujarat High Court in Ahmedabad received a bomb threat via email on Monday, September 15, 2025, prompting an immediate investigation by the authorities. This marks the fourth such incident in the last three months, raising concerns about the security of the court and the potential disruption of judicial proceedings.
Upon receiving the email, the police promptly arrived at the High Court to assess the situation and initiate a thorough investigation. The Sola Police, along with bomb detection and disposal squads, conducted extensive search operations throughout the court premises, including all buildings, judicial chambers, and surrounding areas. Parked and incoming vehicles were also checked. Despite the repeated threats, court proceedings continued as usual.
Previous instances of bomb threats at the Gujarat High Court have occurred in recent months. In July, a district court in Veraval, Gir Somnath district, also received a similar email threat, which later turned out to be a hoax. In June, the High Court received an email warning of an IED blast, leading to the registration of an FIR by the Sola Police and an investigation by the cyber cell. Another threat email in June was traced to a woman in Chennai, who was subsequently arrested and admitted to sending the threats for personal reasons. August 20th saw the High Court receiving another bomb threat, resulting in intensive searches that found nothing suspicious.
The series of bomb threats have not been limited to the High Court. The Gujarat chief minister's office (CMO) and the state secretariat in Gandhinagar also received a bomb threat email in July, which was also deemed a hoax after a thorough search. Several schools, lower courts, and hotels in Gujarat have also been targets of similar hoax emails. On June 9, 2025, an unidentified person sent an email to the official ID of the Gujarat High Court, claiming that an IED blast would occur in the court building in the evening.
These repeated incidents have prompted authorities to suspect that the threats are part of a coordinated effort to create panic and disrupt judicial functioning. Investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the emails and identify the individuals responsible. The police are also working to enhance security measures at the High Court and other sensitive locations to prevent future incidents.
The recent increase in hoax bomb threats across major Indian cities, including the Delhi and Mumbai High Courts, has put law enforcement agencies on high alert. Authorities are exploring possible connections between these threats and are taking steps to ensure the safety and security of judicial institutions and other public places.
