Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is showering praise on Mohit Suri's latest directorial venture, Saiyaara, which has not only become a box office success but has also resonated deeply with audiences. Bhatt, known for his mentorship role in Suri's career, expressed immense pride in Saiyaara's achievements, even suggesting that it has surpassed the success of other films within their family.
According to Bhatt, Saiyaara has emerged as the highest opener of 2025, outperforming even the blockbuster Chhaava. He sees this as a testament to the film's ability to connect with viewers on an emotional level, proving that "audiences still crave diverse stories, especially heartfelt romances". He also added that Saiyaara has broken myths about what works at the box office. The film has earned over Rs 20 crore on its opening day. According to one report, the movie earned more than Rs 500 crore worldwide.
Bhatt drew parallels between Saiyaara's success and their shared history with the Aashiqui franchise. He noted that while he laid the foundation with the original Aashiqui, Suri breathed new life into it with Aashiqui 2. With Saiyaara, Bhatt believes Suri has "broken free from its shadow, crafting his own universe and finding his own voice".
The film stars debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in leading roles. The film has been praised for its heartfelt storytelling and exceptional performances.
Saiyaara is a romantic drama produced by Akshaye Widhani under Yash Raj Films. The film's soundtrack features seven songs by Mithoon, Sachet–Parampara, Tanishk Bagchi, The Rish, Vishal Mishra, Faheem Abdullah, and Arslan Nizami, with lyrics by Mithoon, Kant, Raj Shekhar, and Irshad Kamil. The title track, "Saiyaara," was composed and recorded by Faheem Abdullah, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil. The song was released on June 3, 2025.
Several prominent figures in the film industry have lauded Saiyaara for its compelling narrative and outstanding performances. Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu praised the film's honest storytelling and the lead actors' effortless portrayal of their characters. Alia Bhatt also penned a heartfelt note to the team, expressing her admiration for Ahaan and Aneet's performances.
The Hindu's review of Saiyaara highlighted the film's focus on mental health and its return to the pre-rom-com era, where "heartache travelled through the screen on the wings of melodies, sacrifice was considered a virtue, and selfless love was celebrated".
In a recent statement, Mahesh Bhatt said that Mohit Suri has not yet arrived despite the success of Saiyaara. He said that while they will have hits, they will also have flops.
