Tata Communications and BSNL Join Forces: Delivering Seamless eSIM Connectivity Solutions Throughout India

Tata Communications has deployed its digital infrastructure solutions to power Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's (BSNL) newly launched eSIM services for millions of subscribers across India. This partnership enables BSNL to offer enhanced mobile connectivity through next-generation eSIM technology.

Tata Communications is powering BSNL's eSIM services through its GSMA-accredited eSIM Subscription Management platform, Tata Communications MOVE™, delivered by Tata Communications Collaboration Services Private Ltd. (TCCSPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Communications Ltd. This platform allows BSNL to facilitate eSIM provisioning for its pan-India mobile subscribers.

The launch of BSNL's eSIM services is a significant step towards enhancing customer experience and future-proofing mobile connectivity in India, offering increased convenience, flexibility, and security in cellular services. BSNL's eSIMs, powered by Tata Communications MOVE™, enable remote provisioning of 2G/3G/4G connectivity service through a secure QR code, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card. Furthermore, users with devices supporting dual-SIM functionality can utilize an eSIM alongside a physical SIM, which makes it easier to connect securely with any local operator while traveling abroad.

A.S. Lakshminarayanan, MD and CEO of Tata Communications, stated that the company is honored to partner with BSNL to bring secure, scalable, and future-ready eSIM services to millions of citizens, enabling India's shift towards next-generation connectivity. He added that this collaboration reflects Tata Communications' commitment to driving digital innovation and supporting sovereign infrastructure, laying the foundation for a more connected and resilient India. A. Robert Ravi, Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL, said that the launch of the pan-India eSIM service represents a strategic advancement in the nation's telecom capabilities.

BSNL had soft-launched its eSIM services in the Tamil Nadu circle in August, joining private sector rivals Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi), which already commercially offer these services nationwide. BSNL noted that the eSIM service would enable customers to activate mobile connections without a physical SIM on compatible smartphones and wearables, with a phased nationwide rollout planned. BSNL has nearly 9 crore mobile users.

Key features of BSNL's eSIM services include: * Remote Activation: Instant activation of 2G, 3G, or 4G services via a secure QR code, eliminating the need for a physical SIM. * Dual-SIM Functionality: The ability to use an eSIM alongside a physical SIM in devices that support dual-SIM, facilitating secure connections with local operators during international travel. * Enhanced Security: eSIM technology provides stronger security features compared to traditional SIM cards, ensuring user data and connections are safe.

This initiative aligns with Tata Communications' commitment to supporting Digital India. While the rollout currently focuses on consumer services, the MOVE™ platform is designed to scale for enterprise IoT applications, facilitating digital transformation for Indian businesses.
