Sonakshi Sinha recently visited Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque with her husband, Zaheer Iqbal, and shared photos of the visit on her social media. While many appreciated the serene glimpses into their trip, one particular comment criticizing Sinha's attire sparked a sharp and witty response from the actress.
The user accused Sinha of committing a "sin" by wearing shoes inside the mosque. Sinha, however, was quick to shut down the troll with a calm but firm reply. She clarified that they hadn't gone inside the mosque with shoes on and had removed them in the designated area before entering. Sinha further added, "Itna toh humein bhi aata hai. Chaliye, ab aage badhiye," which translates to "Even we know that much. Now, let's move on".
Sinha's response quickly went viral, with many praising her for her composure and for shutting down the negativity with facts. The incident highlights the unfortunately common phenomenon of social media users attempting to police celebrities' religious practices and attire. In this instance, Sinha chose to address the criticism head-on, setting the record straight and subtly reminding the commenter to be better informed before making accusations.
The actress wore a green and white printed kurta and pyjama, and covered her head with a green dupatta for the mosque visit. This followed after Deepika Padukone faced similar trolling for wearing a burqa. Some social media users questioned whether Sinha was observing Karwa Chauth or visiting for Haj, referencing the Hindu festival and the Islamic pilgrimage respectively. Sinha and Iqbal have not responded to these comments.
Sinha and Iqbal tied the knot on June 23, 2024, after dating for nearly seven years. The couple's wedding was an intimate ceremony held at Sinha's Mumbai residence.
This isn't the first time Sinha has faced online criticism. She was previously trolled for her interfaith marriage with Iqbal. Despite the negativity, Sinha continues to share glimpses of her life with her husband on social media, often ignoring the trolls.
