Patna, November 11, 2025 – The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections have concluded, with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar hailing the event as "historic" due to the unprecedented participation of over 7.5 crore voters. This landmark election saw the highest voter turnout in the state since 1951, with 66.91% of eligible voters casting their ballots.
The second and final phase of polling occurred on November 11, 2025, across 122 constituencies in 20 districts, including regions such as Mithila, Kosi belt, Magadh, Angika, and Seemanchal. A total of 1,302 candidates, including ministers from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's government, contested in this phase. The first phase, held on November 6, also recorded a high turnout of 65%.
CEC Gyanesh Kumar lauded the efforts of 1.76 lakh booth-level agents and election staff for their hard work during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters' list. He noted that the diligent efforts of election workers ensured that no District Magistrate in Bihar received any appeals regarding the SIR.
A notable aspect of the election was the significant participation of women voters. In the first phase, the female voter turnout was 69.04%, compared to 61.56% among men. This trend continued in the second phase, with 71.6% of women casting their votes, surpassing the 62.8% turnout among male voters. CEC Gyanesh Kumar acknowledged women's faith in the Election Commission, which resulted in the highest female voter turnout ever, at 71%.
Security measures were heightened throughout the state, particularly after a blast outside New Delhi's Red Fort. Bihar's Director General of Police, Vinay Kumar, implemented strict security protocols to ensure the safety and integrity of the electoral process.
District-wise turnout figures revealed significant variations in voter engagement. Kishanganj recorded the highest turnout at 76.26%, followed by Katihar (75.23%), Purnea (73.79%), and Araria (67.79%), while Nawada reported the lowest turnout at 57.11%.
The Election Commission reported that 3.7 crore voters participated in the second phase, including 1.95 crore male voters and 1.74 crore female voters. Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Singh Gunjiyal stated that the voting percentage for the second phase was 68.79%, with data from 2,000 booths still pending.
Exit polls have predicted a victory for the NDA alliance. Official results are scheduled to be announced on November 14.
