Donald Trump announced on Saturday, May 10, 2025, that India and Pakistan have agreed to a "full and immediate ceasefire" following mediation by the United States. The announcement came after a period of heightened tensions and cross-border hostilities between the two countries.

Trump made the announcement on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating, "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE". He also congratulated both countries "on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence" and thanked them for their attention to the matter.

Shortly after Trump's announcement, confirmation of the ceasefire came from both India and Pakistan. According to reports, Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called his Indian counterpart at 3:35 PM on Saturday, and the ceasefire went into effect at 5:00 PM. India's Ministry of External Affairs and the foreign ministry in Pakistan also confirmed the agreement.

Details regarding the specifics of the ceasefire indicate that it encompasses land, air, and sea. Further discussions between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan are scheduled for Monday.

The announcement of the ceasefire follows a period of increased tensions between India and Pakistan, including accusations of strikes and attacks. The agreement has been met with cautious optimism, with many hoping it will lead to a de-escalation of tensions and a renewed focus on peaceful dialogue between the two nations.
