Aamir Khan's latest film, Sitaare Zameen Par, is making waves at the box office, exceeding expectations and surpassing the lifetime collections of several notable films in the actor's career. Released on June 20, 2025, the film has garnered ₹74 crore in India within just five days of its release, according to early estimates. This strong performance has allowed it to surpass the entire domestic earnings of Aamir Khan's previous film, Laal Singh Chaddha, which totaled ₹61.36 crore, as well as Taare Zameen Par (₹62.95 crore) and Rang De Basanti (₹52.91 crore).
The film had a decent start on its opening day, Friday, collecting ₹10.7 crore. However, it experienced substantial growth over the weekend, with collections jumping to ₹20.2 crore on Saturday (an impressive 88.79% increase) and ₹27.25 crore on Sunday. While Monday saw a significant drop to ₹8.5 crore, the film held reasonably well. Tuesday's earnings were estimated to be ₹4.21 crore.
Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par has also performed well in the overseas market, collecting $3.10 million. However, some reports suggest that the overseas numbers could have been higher, considering Aamir Khan's international appeal. In the Gulf region, the film has outperformed Laal Singh Chaddha, but it has underperformed in the US and Canada markets. Globally, Sitaare Zameen Par has earned ₹110 crore.
Despite being considered a niche film, Sitaare Zameen Par has managed to create a significant impact at the box office, particularly in multiplexes and urban centers. Trade analysts note that the film has benefited from positive word-of-mouth, which has translated into strong occupancy rates.
Sitaare Zameen Par's success marks a positive turn for Aamir Khan after the lukewarm reception of Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022. With its strong performance in the opening weekend, the film is now aiming to reach the ₹100 crore mark domestically and surpass the ₹114 crore milestone set by Ghajini.
The film's box office success is also a personal milestone for Genelia D'Souza, as it has become her highest-grossing film.
Sitaare Zameen Par now holds the 7th position in Aamir Khan's list of highest-grossing films in terms of India net collections. The top six films are Dangal (₹374.43 crore), PK (₹340.8 crore), Dhoom 3 (₹271.07 crore), 3 Idiots (₹202.47 crore), Thugs of Hindostan (₹151.3 crore), and Ghajini (₹114 crore).
