Simu Liu, the star of Marvel's "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," is engaged to his girlfriend, Allison Hsu. The actor shared the joyful news on Instagram on Sunday, delighting fans with photos from his romantic Paris proposal.
Liu, 36, posted a photo with Hsu, 28, showcasing her sparkling diamond ring. "From weekends in Paris, day trips to Palm Springs, long nights on set, afternoons vegging on the couch and everything in between, I choose you forever and always," Liu captioned the post. Hsu, a marketing director, shared a joint Instagram post with the simple yet heartfelt caption “Us forever,” accompanied by ring and heart emojis. In response to Liu's post, she wrote, "I love you fiancé!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". Liu also made a playful nod to his Marvel role, joking via Instagram Story, “Nine rings left to go!”.
The couple's engagement announcement was met with an outpouring of congratulatory messages from friends and fans. Celebrities like Florence Pugh, who plays Yelena Belova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, wrote, “AHHHHHHH HOW AMAZING! Sending love to you both”. John Legend also offered his congratulations.
Liu and Hsu were first romantically linked in late 2022, after attending the "Violent Night" premiere in Los Angeles. In a 2023 interview with People, Liu praised Hsu for her positive impact on his life. "She's absolutely changed my life, so I'm very, very grateful to have her," he said. He also expressed that he felt a "breath of relief" after finding Hsu. "I think everyone knows the feeling of being in a situation where they're not fully happy, and then all of a sudden for that to change ... it's such a breath of relief," Liu said. "It's this feeling of 'Oh, right, it does exist.' You start to feel like, okay, maybe I've just been conditioned to want something that doesn't exist or I have unrealistic expectations".
The engagement follows a busy year for Liu, who recently appeared as a guest Dragon on Canada's Dragons' Den and is currently filming the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, set for release in 2026. He told People that he feels "challenged and loved and cared for, and I feel championed” by Hsu.
