Prime Minister Modi Leads Key Meeting Addressing Indo-Pak Relations and Strategic Considerations

Amidst a fragile ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday to review the security situation. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister's residence, was attended by key figures including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of all three armed services. This follows a period of heightened tensions and fierce fighting between the two nations, which culminated in a ceasefire announcement.

The meeting occurred a day after India and Pakistan agreed to halt all military actions against each other, putting an end to four days of intense conflict. However, shortly after the ceasefire announcement, India accused Pakistan of violating the terms of the understanding, raising concerns about the stability of the agreement. These violations, coupled with recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and subsequent drone attacks allegedly launched by Pakistan, have fueled fears of escalating conflict.

Sources indicate that the Prime Minister emphasized the need for continued vigilance and a strong response to any potential aggression from Pakistan. Modi reportedly instructed the three service chiefs to retaliate forcefully to any offensive actions from across the border, utilizing proportionate force. India has also made it clear that any future engagement with Pakistan will occur exclusively through the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs). A meeting between the DGMOs of both countries is scheduled for today.

The recent escalation was triggered by a terror attack on April 22, which targeted tourists and resulted in numerous casualties. In response to this attack, India launched "Operation Sindoor" on May 7, targeting terror facilities within Pakistan. The operation involved precision airstrikes on multiple military sites and reportedly eliminated a significant number of terrorists, including high-value targets.

The situation remains tense, with residents in border areas living in fear following days of shelling and drone incidents. Despite the ceasefire agreement, reports of ceasefire violations and drone sightings continue to surface. India's Foreign Secretary has urged Pakistan to address these violations with seriousness and responsibility, emphasizing that Indian armed forces are on high alert and prepared to respond to any breach of understanding.

The high-level meeting chaired by PM Modi underscores the gravity of the situation and the government's commitment to maintaining national security in the face of ongoing challenges. The focus remains on ensuring the ceasefire holds, preventing further cross-border terrorism, and responding effectively to any future provocations.
