Donald Trump has nominated Sergio Gor, a long-time political aide, as the next United States Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. The announcement was made by Trump on Truth Social. Gor will remain in his current role as the Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office until his confirmation.
Trump praised Gor as a "great friend" who has been by his side for many years. He highlighted Gor's work on his presidential campaigns, his role in publishing Trump's books, and his leadership of a Super PAC that supported their movement. Trump emphasized the importance of having someone he trusts in the "most populous region in the world" to deliver on his agenda and "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN". He stated that Gor's role as Director of Presidential Personnel has been essential in delivering on the mandate he received from the American people and that Gor would be an incredible Ambassador.
Sergio Gor, born Sergey Gorokhovsky on November 30, 1986, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, is an American businessman and political operative. He also spent several years of his childhood in Malta. He graduated from George Washington University, where he was involved in conservative causes. Gor was an activist for John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign and worked for the Republican National Committee. He later served as a spokesman for Representatives Steve King, Michele Bachmann, and Randy Forbes. In May 2013, Gor began working for Rand Paul's political action committee, RANDPAC, eventually serving as Paul's spokesman, communications director, and deputy chief of staff.
In June 2020, Gor became the chief of staff of the Trump Victory Finance Committee. The following month, he began working for Donald Trump Jr. as his consultant and book publishing manager. In October 2021, Trump Jr. and Gor founded Winning Team Publishing, a conservative publishing house. The company published several books about Donald Trump, including "Our Journey Together" (2021), "Letters to Trump" (2023), and "Save America" (2024). Gor was also a senior advisor to MAGA Inc. and led Right for America, a political action committee, for Trump. In November 2024, Trump named Gor as Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office.
As Director of Presidential Personnel, Gor and his team have reportedly hired nearly 4,000 "America First Patriots" across every department of the Federal Government. Trump noted that the departments and agencies are over 95% filled.
Gor's appointment comes as the U.S. and India navigate a complex relationship. He will succeed Eric Garcetti, who served as ambassador from May 11, 2023, to January 20, 2025. Since Garcetti's exit, interim Charge d'Affaires Jorgan K Andrews has been leading the U.S. Embassy in India. Gor will remain in his current White House role until confirmed by the Senate.
