Mohanlal's latest film, Thudarum, has achieved a phenomenal feat, surpassing ₹200 crore at the worldwide box office in just 17 days. This makes it the third Malayalam movie to reach this milestone, joining the ranks of Manjummel Boys and L2: Empuraan. Thudarum has also become the highest-grossing Malayalam film in Kerala, exceeding the collections of 2018.
Directed by Tharun Moorthy, Thudarum has grossed an estimated ₹205 crore globally, with ₹115 crore from India and ₹90 crore from overseas. The film's rapid success makes it the second-fastest Mollywood title to reach the ₹200 crore mark, following Empuraan.
Mohanlal expressed his gratitude on social media, acknowledging the film's place "in millions of hearts across the world" and thanking fans for their love and support.
Thudarum has broken several records since its release on April 25, 2025. On its opening day, the film collected ₹5.5 crore, marking the second-biggest opening for a Malayalam film this year, only behind Mohanlal's own L2: Empuraan, which had a massive opening of ₹18.6 crore. Within 24 hours of release, Thudarum sold 4.28 lakh tickets on BookMyShow, setting an all-time record for a Malayalam film on the platform.
The movie's success has not only boosted the Malayalam film industry but has also placed Mohanlal in a unique position. He is now the only South Indian actor to deliver two consecutive ₹200 crore grossers within a month.
Thudarum's cast includes Shobana, Prakash Varma, Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, Thomas Mathew, and Krishna Prabha.
With ₹205.08 crore in the kitty, Thudarum has emerged as Mollywood's 3rd ₹200 crore grosser globally after Manjummel Boys and L2: Empuraan. It is also the 3rd highest-grossing Malayalam film after L2: Empuraan (₹268.05 crore) and Manjummel Boys (₹241.56 crore). By the end of its third weekend, Thudarum had amassed an impressive ₹98.93 crore net at the Indian box office, with a gross of ₹116.73 crore including taxes. The film is still performing well in the overseas market, with a gross of ₹88.35 crore so far.
Thudarum's entry into the ₹200 crore club makes it the 6th Indian film to achieve this feat worldwide in 2025.
The film has surpassed other notable Malayalam films like 2018: Everyone Is A Hero, Premalu, and Pulimurugan. While Empuraan crossed ₹250 crore worldwide, it did not outperform 2018 at the Kerala box office.
Thudarum is expected to cross the ₹100 crore milestone in Kerala by its fourth week. The film's distributor share in Kerala is approximately ₹36 crore.
