A woman in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, experienced a horrifying incident after discovering a lizard's tail in a Havmor ice cream cone. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when Bhavika Tilwani, a resident of Maninagar, was enjoying ice cream with her children. She found a dead lizard's tail in the crispy wafer cone of her frozen dessert. Tilwani had already consumed a portion of the cone before making the unsettling discovery.
Following the incident, Tilwani experienced violent bouts of vomiting and was rushed to L G Hospital, where she received treatment. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) took immediate action by sealing the Mahalaxmi Corner ice cream parlor in the Maninagar area, where the family had purchased the ice cream cones. The parlor was operating without a valid license.
Further investigation by the health department revealed that the contaminated "Happy Cone" was manufactured at the Havmor Ice Cream Pvt Ltd factory in Naroda GIDC Phase-1. The AMC imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000 on the company. Additionally, samples of the Happy Cone were sent for testing, and Havmor was instructed to recall the entire batch from the market.
Dr. Bhavin Joshi, an additional health officer at AMC, stated that the complaint was received through media channels, prompting the sealing of the parlor and the penalty on Havmor Ice Cream Pvt Ltd.
In response to the incident, a Havmor spokesperson issued a statement to the media, saying that the company is investigating the matter and is in contact with the concerned consumer. The spokesperson emphasized Havmor's commitment to maintaining the highest global standards for product quality and safety.
Before being hospitalized, Tilwani recorded a video in which she described the incident and urged that action be taken against the ice cream company. She recounted buying four cones and discovering the lizard's tail while eating hers.
This incident has raised concerns about food safety standards and quality control in ice cream manufacturing. The authorities are continuing to investigate the matter to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
